Armchair 400, also known as the Tank Chair, was designed by
Alvar Aalto in 1936 and is one of his most recognizable
upholstered furniture designs.
The chair combines a soft, generous seat with a pair of
continuous bent birch frames that form both the legs and
armrests.
Its construction reflects Aalto’s interest in combining
organic forms, natural materials and modern manufacturing
techniques to create furniture that is both comfortable
and structurally expressive.
