LOUNGE CHAIR

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman combine the comfort of a traditional club chair with the techniques and materials of modern industrial production.

The chair is composed of molded plywood shells connected through aluminium elements and fitted with upholstered leather cushions. Its construction reflects the Eameses’ long experimentation with plywood and their interest in combining technical precision with domestic comfort.

Unlike the lighter and more economical furniture developed during their earlier research, the Lounge Chair was conceived as a more luxurious object. Its generous proportions, reclining position and carefully articulated components transformed it into one of the most recognizable pieces of twentieth-century furniture design.
