DSW CHAIR

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950, the DSW Chair is part of the Eames Molded Plastic Chair family and reflects their continuing research into affordable, adaptable and industrially produced furniture.

The chair combines a single molded shell with a wooden base reinforced by intersecting steel rods. The shell was originally produced in fiberglass, allowing the seat and backrest to form one continuous ergonomic surface.

The DSW demonstrates the Eameses’ idea of a flexible furniture system in which the same shell could be combined with different bases according to use and context. Its simple construction, expressive structure and wide range of configurations made it one of the most recognizable chairs of twentieth-century design.
