LCW CHAIR

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1945, the LCW — Lounge Chair Wood — is one of the most important results of their experiments with molded plywood.

The chair is composed of separate curved plywood elements for the seat, backrest and legs. These components are connected through flexible rubber shock mounts, allowing the structure to respond slightly to the movement of the body while keeping the construction visually simple.

Rather than forcing plywood into a single complex shell, the Eameses divided the chair into individual molded components, each shaped according to its structural and ergonomic role. The result combines industrial production, material efficiency and a highly recognizable organic form.
