TARTAR CONSOLE

Designed in 1985, Tartar has a heavier and more monumental presence than many of the playful objects associated with the first years of Memphis.

Its composition assembles geometric volumes, contrasting patterns and different surface treatments into an intentionally complex and sculptural piece of furniture.

Tartar represents a more austere phase of the Memphis language while retaining Sottsass’ interest in symbolic forms, unexpected material combinations and furniture as an expressive object.
